What are Cream Chargers?

Cream chargers like Smartwhip and Cream Deluxe are steel cylinders or cartridges filled with Nitrous Oxide (N2O) and used in whipped cream dispensers as a whipping agent. Nitrous Oxide is a colourless, non-flammable, sweet-tasting gas that occurs naturally. It is water soluble, and its vapours are heavier than air.

Since their beginnings in the mid-20th century, cream chargers have grown in popularity. They have been employed for a variety of purposes, particularly in the food and beverage industries, due to their ability to inject pressurised gas (nitrous oxide, or N2O) into a liquid and aerate it safely and efficiently.
